An introduction to a selection of archival material held in the Angus Library and Archive relating to the use of science in the lives and work of Baptist men and women, digitised thanks to a grant from Science for Seminaries. Reproduced with kind permission of BMS World Mission.
A day-conference on ‘Baptist Perspectives on Science and Religion’ was held on 24 & 25 September 2025.
To celebrate and reflect the achievements of the Baptist men and women who contributed towards scientific advancement, we have digitised material relating to the work of:
- William Carey (1761-1834), botanist and horticulturalist
- George Grenfell (1849-1906), navigator and geographer / explorer
- Dr Ellen Farrer (1865-1959), founder of the Farrer hospital in Bhiwani, India
We are grateful for the generosity of the ECLAS Science for Seminaries project which enabled us to make these important documents available digitally.
