Science for Seminaries 2025

An introduction to some of the archive material relating to science , digitised thanks to a grant from Science for Seminaries.

A day-conference on ‘Baptist Perspectives on Science and Religion’ was held on 24 & 25 September 2025.

To celebrate and reflect the achievements of the Baptist men and women who contributed towards scientific advancement, we have digitised material relating to the work of:

  • William Carey (1761-1834), botanist and horticulturalist
  • George Grenfell (1849-1906), navigator and geographer / explorer
  • Dr Ellen Farrer (1865-1959), founder of the Farrer hospital in Bhiwani, India

We are grateful for the generosity of the ECLAS Science for Seminaries project which enabled us to make these important documents available digitally.

Here is a selection of material used by George Grenfell during his explorations in the Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo)
